Meet…Elisabeth Rangeley

Elisabeth Rangeley is a Trainee Solicitor at Holden Smith

What is your role at Holden Smith and how did you get into a career in law?

I’m a trainee solicitor based at the Denby Dale office. I’ve always had an interest in law and dabbled in legal practice in my twenties before going on to have a career in the charity sector.  I returned to study later in life and law was a natural choice for me.  I’m now firmly on the path to qualifying as a solicitor and couldn’t be happier about it.

What are we likely to find you doing on a day-to-day basis?

I’m currently working in conveyancing, so you’ll find me dealing with a whole range of sale, purchase, remortgage and transfer of equity transactions.

What kind of problem might you solve on a typical day / week?

Anything related to residential property matters.  I could be dealing with sale enquiries raised by a buyer’s solicitor, trouble-shooting with a lender to ensure our client’s monies are released on time for completion, or dealing with requisitions received from the Land Registry.  My typical day also includes guiding clients through the conveyancing process.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

I understand that buying or selling property can be stressful whether you are an investment buyer, selling as an executor or purchasing your dream home.  That’s why the most rewarding part of the job for me is always calling the client on the day of completion to confirm that it has all gone through.

Tell us what makes Holden Smith different…

Holden Smith bring a modern and fresh approach to a profession which has long been known for it’s stuffy image.  They are quick to understand their clients’ needs and to come up with real-world, cost-effective solutions.  Holden Smith are great to work for and they really encourage personal development within the team.

What three words do you think (hope!) your colleagues would use to describe you?

I would say driven, friendly and organised.

What are we most likely to find you doing when you’re not at work?

Being mum’s taxi and cheerleader to my two nearly-teenage children.  I can also be found walking my dog in the beautiful countryside that surrounds the Denby Dale area.  Finally, I can be found with my head in my books doing lots of studying for my law exams!

What’s your favourite spot in Yorkshire and why?

There’s so many to chose from, but I do love the Yorkshire coastline, particularly in summer.  Whitby is my absolute favourite, I love the Abbey, the beach, the history, the shops and of course, the fish and chips!

What’s your party trick?

Party tricks are not one of my strengths – I’ll stick to law!
