Amy Liddell, trainee solicitor at Holden Smith

What is your role at Holden Smith and how did you get into a career in law?

I’m a trainee solicitor at Holden Smith. I graduated with a degree in law from Durham University in 2016 and went onto get a management role in hospitality. After gaining some incredible leadership and life experience, I decided to go back to law in 2020 and have recently completed my LPC and law Masters Degree.

What are we likely to find you doing on a day-to-day basis?

I deal with mostly purchase work, so you can usually find me speaking to clients about their property, writing reports, or assessing contract packs to raise enquiries.

What kind of problem might you solve on a typical day/week?

All kinds of quirky properties can pop up in conveyancing so it could be anything from fixing a defective lease to explaining a complex issue to a client or resolving problems on the Land Registry title. As long as I have a cup of tea on my desk, I love getting stuck into the more complex files!

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

Moving house can be stressful and I love making the process as easy and smooth as possible for my clients.

Probably at a gig with a beer!

What’s your favourite spot in Yorkshire and why?

The city of Leeds for sure – I love the culture, the music, the pubs and the people.

What’s your party trick?

Talking to anyone who will listen to me about my two chihuahuas, Toto and Otis.
